Welcome to the new school year. I am very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to all the learning and growing that will happen. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of several important classroom/school policies and procedures.

Remember, our school’s motto is:

We are the Durham Eagles. We only do our best, nothing less. We exhibit leadership, wisdom, and character.

Fly high Eagles…Reach for the sky!

Our class room expectations are:

  1. Show Respect
  2. Make Good Decisions
  3. Solve Problems
  4. Be a Leader

During the first weeks of school, we will be discussing as a class how to successfully meet these expectations.  Your child may earn a Student of the Month recognition if she/he meets these expectations and displays any of the following 8 Great Traits:

  1. Caring (I am kind to others.)
  2. Honesty (I tell the truth.)
  3. Responsibility (I am in charge of what I say and do.)
  4. Integrity (I do what is right.)
  5. Respect (I value and accept other people.)
  6. Citizenship (I help others, my school, and my community.)
  7. Planning and Decision Making (I make good choices.)
  8. Problem Solving (I cooperate with others to find a good solution.)

Incentives for following our rules and making good choices:

  • Earn Class Dojo Points for prizes
  • Positive Note/call home
  • Award certificate or Student of Month Recognition
  • Teacher/Class helper
  • Verbal praise

Consequences for not following rules and making poor choices:

  • Loss of Class Dojo Points
  • Reflection Form (to be signed by parent/guardian and returned)
  • Time out in class or another classroom
  • Note/call home
  • Office referral to meet with Principal/Wednesday detention

SCHOOL BEGINNING AND DISMISSAL TIMES:  It is vital that each day your child eats breakfast and arrives on time. Please make sure to have your child line up at our class line number on the playground by 8:28. Arriving tardy and hungry disrupts the class and hinders your child’s learning. School ends at 2:45 each day and 1:35 on Wednesdays. If you need to pick up your child earlier than the dismissal time, please go to the office and the office will call the classroom. PLEASE do not interrupt the class before dismissal time.

BLUE DURHAM FOLDERS: Each Wednesday, a blue Durham folder will be sent home. Be sure to read all the items in the folder and return any required forms with the folder the next day. Durham Newsletters will be sent out every 2 weeks. Graded materials and teacher newsletters will be sent home periodically.

PARENT INVITATION AND CLASSROOM DONATIONS: I invite all parents and guardians to volunteer in our classroom or school. Any help can make a difference.  I also welcome any donations such as facial tissues, paper towels, baby wipes, yellow copy paper, school supplies, rewards or prizes, and healthy snacks

If you have any questions, I can be reached through the Class Dojo App or by e-mail at

I look forward to a successful 2nd grade year and I thank you for your support.
